WATCH ABOVE: A Red Deer family is hoping to move forward after the tragic death of a family member. 18-year-old Levi Marance was murdered last week and in a show of strength Levi’s mother if forgiving the two teens charged, with the hopes of helping others. Tracy Nagai reports.
The mother of a young man who died after being stabbed a week ago hopes something good can come of her son’s death.
Eighteen-year-old Levi Marance and several other people were attending a party in a group home in northwest Calgary when the stabbing happened.
Police have charged two people with second murder – 18-year-old Jesse Copenace and a 17-year-old male who cannot be identified.
According to his mother, Levi Marance was part of a large, blended family.
From her home in Red Deer, Lynda Marance told Global News her son struggled with a brain injury, and was in and out of trouble since he was 12.
She said at the time of his death, Marance was addicted to crystal meth, couch surfing and sometimes living on the street.
Lynda Marance hopes the people charged get help.
“I want these children, these young people, to have the counselling they need so they’re not going to spend their life in jail or dead,” she said.
Her goal now is to raise money to help other young people in need.
In addition, Levi’s sister is planning a trip to Ghana this fall, to volunteer at an orphanage.
She’s accepting donations to finance the trip and can be reached at fealtheluv@yahoo.ca
