Watch: third day of searching for missing Thelma Krull, 57

WINNIPEG – With no clues or a trace, searches are running out of places to look.

It’s been nearly three days since 57-year-old Thelma Krull was last seen.

The mother and grandmother went out for a hike Saturday morning and had plans to meet her husband at the Canadian Tire on Regent Avenue a couple hours later.  She is captured on a neighbours camera surveillance at 7:23 a.m. leaving her Filbert Crescent home on foot in Harbourview South. No one has reported seeing her since.

“Make sure you check the recycling bins the garbage bins and all that stuff,” said one searcher.

All day Monday Krull’s family, friends and complete strangers comb more trails and treed areas where they think she may have hiked.

“We absolutely know people saw her and we need to know you saw her,” said Connie Muscat, who worked with Krull.

Over the weekend, an organized search party of about 50 people left Krull’s house on foot heading in the direction she was last seen. They taped posters to mailboxes and hydro poles and spoke to anyone they encountered, asking if they had seen Thelma.

Thelma was last seen wearing black capris or shorts, a reddish-orange shirt, hiking boots and glasses. She may have had white earbuds and a fanny pack with her cellphone in it.

The Winnipeg police helicopter searched the Chief Peguis Trail area Saturday and search and rescue crews with a scent dog searched the tall, thick brush behind Canadian Tire and Costco on Regent Avenue Sunday morning.

Besser tried to call her mom at 9 a.m. Saturday, but there was no answer. She knew something wasn’t right.

“It was my son’s birthday party yesterday. She was going to pick up the cake and she was going to be there and she would not miss that,” said Besser.

Krull is used to long walks and has survival skills, Besser said. She volunteers as a scout leader and was training for a seven-day hike in British Columbia. She hiked several kilometres every day, often going to Chief Peguis Trail or between Harbourview South and Regent Avenue.

“She would know not to walk on the railway tracks,” said friend and fellow scout Aaron Wiebe. “She would know if she was in trouble to find somebody, she would know not to stay out in the sunlight, she would try and find shelter.”

“That’s why we’re so worried right now,” said Muscat, “she would have known what to do, where to go, how to get help so we are very concerned something else has happened.”

Police ask everyone in those areas to check personal properties, outbuildings, vehicles and any green space surrounding your property, in the event Krull suffered a medical emergency.

Krull is 5-foot-4 and 170 pounds with short dyed blonde hair with a purple streak.

Police are concerned for her well-being and ask anyone with information to contact the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.
