Change of Command ceremony for army in Atlantic region

WATCH: The army’s commander for the Atlantic region Brigadier General Nicolas Eldaoud relinquished command to Brigadier General Carl Turenne. Marieke Walsh reports.

HALIFAX – The division commander of the Canadian Army for the Atlantic region will formally relinquish command to his replacement in Halifax on Thursday.

Brigadier-General Nicolas Eldaoud assumed command of the 5th Canadian Division in July 2013, he is being replaced by Brigadier-General Carl Turenne.

Before assuming his current posting. Brig.-Gen. Eldaoud served in Afghanistan as Commanding Officer of the National Support Element from July 2007 to March 2008. He graduated from the Royal Military College of Kingston in electrical and mechanical engineering in 1988.

Fifth Canadian Division is responsible for all army regular and reserve forces in the four Atlantic provinces, with the exception of the 2nd Battalion in New Brunswick.

Brig.-Gen. Turenne was promoted to his current rank in 2013, most recently he served as Deputy Commanding General – Operation to US Army Corps at Join Base Lewis-McChord, WA. Brig.-Gen. Turenne served in the UN-force in Cyprus, the NATO mission in the former Yugoslavia, in Haiti, and in Afghanistan.
