Fraser, a 120lbs Labrador, needed a little help from North Shore Rescue Thursday afternoon, after he and his owner went for a hike to Norvan Falls.

When it was time to return home, Fraser was unable to walk due to exhaustion and cuts on his paws.

Passing hikers saw the owner and Fraser and told Lynn Headwaters staff when they returned to the trailhead. Staff then contacted North Shore Rescue (NSR) and started up the trail with a stretcher and a big wheel.

Luckily, Talon Helicopter’s owner Peter Murray, has a soft spot for dogs so when he was contacted by NSR he offered one of his helicopters free of charge. Team members were then flown into a relatively close helipad and hiked in to meet up with Fraser and his owner.

The exhausted dog was then packaged in the stretcher and transported to the waiting helicopter. Everyone got out safe before dark.
