TORONTO – Two competing visions of Toronto’s transit future will be debated at a special city council meeting today.
Mayor Rob Ford and his allies are determined to keep his subway vision alive.
Toronto Transit Commission chairwoman Karen Stinz has a vision that includes fiscal responsibility and wants to revive a plan called Transit City. It places more emphasis on light rail transit moving above ground-a plan that was already supported under former mayor David Miller.
Ford sent out a special message to supporters urging them to let their councillors know they support underground transit.
