New images of suspect in Vaughan café shooting released by police

TORONTO — York Regional Police homicide investigators have released new images and surveillance video of a suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting at a Vaughan café.

Police hope the images of the suspect, which were taken the day before the shooting, will prompt the public to come forward with information.

The brazen attack last Wednesday morning at Moka Cafe, near Islington Ave. and Highway 7, left two people dead and two others wounded.

Maria Voci, 47, and Christopher De Simone, 24, both from Vaughan, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Autopsies on the victims confirmed both died of the gunshot wounds sustained in the attack.

Voci was a mother of three and worked at the café. One of the men who was injured in the attack was Rocco Di Paola, a businessman who was a Toronto mayoral candidate in last year’s election.

Police said the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle at the time of the shooting; a black 2011 Nissan Versa with licence plate BVLW 273.

The car and suspect were last seen speeding away from the café, headed south on Islington Ave.

Police said before the shooting the car was seen on Pioneer Lane, off Islington.

The man is considered armed and dangerous and police are asking the public to keep their distance if he is spotted and call 911 immediately.

The new pictures were obtained by police from video surveillance and officials urge anyone with information to come forward.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male, standing 5’10” to 5’11” tall.

He was wearing a light grey Nike hoodie and black track pants at the time of the shooting. He had a mask covering his face.
