A fire 35 square kilometres in size is burning 110 kilometres northeast of Fort Nelson.
The Petitot River fire is currently 3,500 hectares in size and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality has issued an Evacuation Alert for the Penn West Wildboy Plant facility 10 kilometres to the east of the fire, along with the surrounding area.
“There is no immediate danger at this time, but because of the potential danger to life and health, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality has issued an Evacuation Alert,” reads the statement from Bill Streeper, Mayor of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.
“All residents, camps, and worksites within this bordered area are affected.”

It was one of eight new wildfires that broke out in northeastern B.C. this weekend, including a 75 hectare fire burning east of Mount Bigfoot.
Eight other fires were started between Keremeos and Osoyoos this weekend as a result of lightning strikes.
