MONTREAL – The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is investigating after a Montreal police officer was involved in a late-night shooting on Friday.
The incident occurred at 11:45 p.m. on Ponsard Avenue in Côte-des-Neiges when police responded to an emergency call.
When they arrived on the scene of an alleged burglary, one of the officers discharged her weapon, injuring a suspect.
He is in hospital with serious injuries, but police do not fear for his life.
The officer involved in the shooting was also injured during the intervention and was admitted to hospital with minor injuries.
The Public Security Minister has turned the case over to the SQ which is standard procedure in cases involving shootings of civilians by Montreal police.
SQ officers are on the scene interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.
