TORONTO – Ontario Provincial Police have identified the woman and two young boys who were killed in a “horrific crash” in Shelburne, Ont.

OPP Constable Paul Nancekivell said the victims are Tina Andersen, 43, and her sons three-year-old Benjamin Parkinson and six-year-old Gunner Parkinson, all from Orangeville, Ont.

Police said Andersen’s 2012 Honda Accord collided with a dump truck at around 3:30 p.m. in the Town of Mono, Ont. on Wednesday.

Nancekivell said Andersen and Benjamin were pronounced dead at the scene on Highway 89 east of Shelburne, while Gunner later died in hospital.

“We know that her vehicle crossed the centre line, went underneath the dump truck and tore the front axle of the dump truck off,” he said.

Nancekivell said the driver of the dump truck was taken to hospital for shock and later released, but did not suffer major injuries.

Investigators were at the scene until 3 a.m. Thursday morning, but police have not confirmed the cause of the accident.

“That’s what we don’t understand, there’s no indication of a cellphone, there’s no indication of alcohol at this time,” Nancekivell said, adding that an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

“We’re also going to be downloading the black box from the car, the internal computer, hopefully that will provide what the speed was at the time of impact and if there was any braking.”

Nancekivell said critical incident responders were speaking with police officers on Thursday because the scene was difficult for those who responded to the crash.

“It’s not something you see everyday,” said Nancekivell. “You don’t expect young children like that to be taken that suddenly.”
