Backcountry hikers are being cautioned to stay away from an area near Pemberton where the Elaho wildfire continues to burn.

Fire officials said Saturday that the blaze, located 67 kilometres west of Pemberton, is now 25 per cent contained. According to the Wildfire Management Branch, the fire is 700 hectares in size. Ninety-four firefighters and 6 helicopters are on scene.

Officials say it’s a tough fight because much of the fire is located on steep slopes that are difficult to access.

Investigators believe the fire to be human-caused.
