EDMONTON — Fire investigators are looking into the cause of a basement blaze in a home north of downtown Edmonton.

Crews were called just after 11:30 Wednesday night to a home at 10835 107 St. in the Central McDougall neighbourhood.

Firefighters arrived to find flames and thick smoke coming from the basement, and smoke could later be seen seeping from the roof.

An upstairs resident said the sound of the fire alarm in the basement suite woke him. No one was hurt, but the blaze did leave behind significant damage. The cause is not yet known.
