WATCH: Search continues for missing man after he fell off ship near Humber Bay.
TORONTO – The Toronto Police Marine Unit is scouring Lake Ontario for a third day, searching for a man who fell off a party boat over the weekend.
Keith White, 34, from London, Ont., fell off the Mariposa Cruises’ “Northern Spirit” ship near Humber Bay. Friends and family have identified White as the missing man, but police have declined to confirm his identity.
His family said White was healthy and in good shape, and certified as a lifeguard.
Police say they got the call at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night and believe the man fell about 25 feet from the upper deck. His girlfriend, who was on the boat with him, has said White simply lost his balance and fell overboard. Authorities are investigating how he ended up in the water.
The water temperature at the time was about 9 °C.
The Marine Unit has been assisted by helicopters but so far they’ve come up empty.
Poor weather conditions have hampered the search. Police say strong currents are complicating efforts.
