N.B. drivers considered angriest in the country, poll indicates

MONCTON – Drivers are divided over a new poll that suggests New Brunswick drivers are among the angriest in the country.

The poll was commissioned by autotrader.ca to look at driving pet peeves across the country and included over 1,500 Canadians. It’s statistics revealed that 61 per cent of New Brunswick drivers admitted to having road rage.

The lowest province was Quebec, with 70 per cent saying they didn’t experience the emotion.

Driver Lynda MacKinnon says she’s not surprised by the numbers.

“I see it all the time and I’ve experienced it myself,” she said, noting there’s lots of bad drivers out there.

“When you’re trying to merge and they know you’re trying to merge but they won’t let you.”

Others, like Alex Furlong, said there’s worse driving out west.

“We were driving along Main Street and there was actually people stopping to let you out,” he said. “Which I found incredible considering that’s not the case in Regina.”

Despite the debate, the RCMP says aggressive driving is a serious issue. RCMP Constable Jullie Rogers-Marsh says drivers need to consider safety.

“It’s one of the lead causes of crashes in the province,” she said. “It’s up there with drinking and driving and not wearing a seatbelt in terms of injuries and potentially fatal collisions.”
