Alberta to subsidize summer non-profit agency job program for 2,500 students

EDMONTON – Alberta will continue a subsidy program designed to create summer jobs for about 2,500 high school and post-secondary students.

Under the program, the province offers non-profit agencies a wage subsidy of $7 an hour for each job.

Eligible employers include community organizations, First Nations, Métis settlements, municipalities, school divisions and post-secondary institutions.

Last summer the program cost the government about $7 million.

The cost this year is to be made public in the Feb. 9 provincial budget.

Employers must apply for the program by the end of the next month.
