OTTAWA – A published news story says a police report says Parliament Hill gunman Michael Zehaf Bibeau was shot 31 times last Oct. 22 and died of a bullet to the back of the head, likely fired by an RCMP officer.

CBC News cites sources it says have seen the police report for its story.

The network says the Ontario Provincial Police Report to be released Wednesday will also show that Zehaf Bibeau shot Cpl. Nathan Cirillo three times in the back at the National War Memorial.

After shooting Cirillo, Zehaf Bibeau drove to Parliament Hill and burst into the Hill’s Centre Block before being killed in a hail of bullets near the Library of Parliament.

CBC News quotes sources “who have seen the report” as saying Zehaf Bibeau was confronted by security guard Samearn Son – who was shot in the leg – and then pointed his rifle at the chest of another guard, but didn’t fire.

CBC News says the report says that’s when sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers and four RCMP officers who were following Zehaf Bibeau enter the fray, with Vickers signalling the officers that Zehaf Bibeau was behind a post.

The sources told the network Zehaf Bibeau fired at one of the officers and that’s when Vickers dove to the ground, firing all 15 rounds from his gun from less than a metre away, while an RCMP officer began firing from about four metres away.

CBC News says the sources say autopsy and ballistics reports show eight bullets remained in Zehaf Bibeau’s body – four from Vickers’s gun, three that weren’t identified and one entered and exited the body, then re-entered again.
