KELOWNA — A bright future ahead for Brittany Powell who has won a $1 million Maxmillion prize in Friday’s Lotto Max draw. Powell has been playing Lotto Max since she was 19-years-old and now at the age of 24, she’s a millionaire.
“I still can’t believe I won $1 million,” says Powell. “I’m thrilled and I’m going through the motions but the reality has yet to sink in.”
According to the B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC), Powell was fueling up her car at a gas station with some of her friends when she decided to check her Lotto Max ticket.
“All of a sudden bells started going off,” explains Powell. “I was excited because I thought maybe I had won $50,000 and could pay off my jeep but I couldn’t believe it when the clerk told me I had won $1 million.”
Powell says some of the winnings will go towards a backpacking trip, paying off some bills including her jeep as well as a meal and beverage from her favourite pub.
BCLC says the winning ticket was purchased at the Copper Canyon Chevron in Cache Creek. Powell decided to play a ‘Free Play’ while she was in Cache Creek hoping something positive would come from it and it did.
She is the fifth Maxmillion winner in B.C. in the last 30 days. The next Lotto Max draw is on June 5. That one is for the $50 million jackpot plus 50 Maxmillions.
