UPDATE: Charges laid in Monday morning shooting in Edmonton

EDMONTON — A 47-year-old man is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after a shooting in southwest Edmonton early Monday morning.

Police were called to a weapons complaint at 184 Street and Callingwood Road. When they arrived, they found the suspect being held by two citizens.

A 33-year-old man was injured, having been shot several times. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

A male suspect was arrested and a gun was recovered at the scene.

On Wednesday, police revealed the 47-year-old suspect was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and was facing several charges including attempted murder while using a firearm, use of a firearm during an indictable offence, careless use, storage, handling and transportation of a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Police said Wednesday the victim remains in hospital in stable condition.
