Two of the teens charged in Luka Gordic’s death released on bail

WATCH: There was unprecedented security at a North Vancouver courthouse today where three people accused in a Whistler murder appeared before the judge.

Two of the teenagers charged with manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Luka Gordic were released on bail with conditions today.

They were both released on a $5,000 cash deposit and must live with their parents. In addition, they must report to bail supervisor, and stay at home between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The other youth was not granted bail.

“We’re not feeling great at all,” said Luka’s uncle Gianni Buono. “But we’re feeling at least there’s one person held in custody. We just have to be hopeful that the system can follow through here and hold these individuals accountable.”

None of the teenagers, all 17 years old, can be named, nor can the reasons for the judge’s decision.

The announcement came after a dramatic day in a North Vancouver court with heavy security inside and outside the courtroom.

At one point, one of Gordic’s family members was removed from the courtroom following an emotional outburst.

“It was devastating,” said Buono. “My nephew, Luka’s older bother, had to listen to it. Unfortunately, he clasped his hands together and I escorted him out. It was just too much for him to hear.”

Gordic died Sunday morning after a fight between two groups of young people spending the long weekend at the resort town. Friends have set up a Facebook page in his memory.

During the hearing, police said an 18-year-old man was also facing charges of manslaughter. His identity is not being released at this time as IHIT says it may identify the 17 year olds charged.

Investigators say the two groups knew each other.

“This was a situation where a group of young people who knew each other had a dispute which turned deadly,” said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

“There are some witnesses who have yet to speak with investigators about the death of Luka Gordic, we ask that those people come forward now and tell us what they know.”
