Two attempted break-ins at West Kelowna Food Bank

WEST KELOWNA – Staff at the West Kelowna Food Bank is on double duty. An attempted break-in on Saturday evening has them making sure their emergency fridge is stocked and also fixing a door that has been kicked-in.

Today, Global News met with Lenatta Parri, Director of the West Side location, for an interview. Before the interview began, Parri discovered the door had been further damaged, making it two attempted break-ins in less than 24 hours.

The night of the first attempt, RCMP and Parri worked together to secure the facility and temporarily fix the door.

“They had done quite a number on the door. We secured the premises and made sure the windows were locked and no other damaged had been done,” says Parri.

An emergency freezer is kept outside for people who need emergency access to food. According to Parri, the freezer is always stocked. It has staff wondering if the would-be thieves are looking for something else.

“Well we are a business and I suppose there are things like computers and office equipment but no we don’t keep money on location,” Parri adds.

The local community has come forward with offers to fix the door for free.

A second report has been filed with the RCMP and Parri is waiting for a follow-up.
