WATCH: Video of lazy crossing guard prompts change in California neighbourhood

A California mother of two, not happy with a local crossing guard near her childrens’ school, took to social media to get a change.

“The last four months that I know of, she has not once got off her a** and crossed a single child,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

Fed up, she sent her teenage son Austin to film himself crossing the street to see if the guard would get up to let him safely cross.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Those cross guards are always sitting there and they never cross anybody,” he said in the video. “And once again, they’re not crossing anybody.”

In the video, the guard can be seen sitting and chatting with another person who has pulled up a chair.

The video has racked up nearly 90,000 views in just two days and Athena understands the level of interest it has received.

“I think it’s because of the safety of our children. I’m getting a lot of messages from people that live right here and they’ve been saying a lot of the same thing,” she told KBAK.

The company that employs the crossing guard said in a statement that they “have never received a complaint in the past about this guard” and that “the guard has been removed from the corner.”

Athena is pleased that her video has spurred change to make her children’s walks to school safer.

“I’d rather be proactive than reactive,” she said.
