BRANDON– Drivers in Brandon are forced to make a detour after half of a bridge shut down unexpectedly Thursday afternoon.
The 8th Street Bridge southbound lane is closed until further notice.
A release from the western Manitoba city says the partial closure is to allow for a “detailed engineering assessment on the expansion joints on southbound lane and to complete a load rating assessment on the bridge.”
The bridge is restricted to only one-way northbound traffic with a maximum load limit of five tonnes.
People walking over the bridge will not be affected.
This isn’t the first time the bridge has closed.
Last year it was shut down for five months after it was damaged by a garbage truck.
