HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia Health Authority says the bulk of surgeries that were postponed due to a sterilizer malfunction at Halifax’s QEII Health Sciences Centre will be completed this summer.

In a news release, the authority says it has developed a plan to complete the postponed surgeries without increasing the overall wait list.

It says it will add additional operating room times at the health sciences centre during the summer months, as well as using operating rooms at other nearby facilities.

The provincial health authority says the surgeries, as always, will be prioritized based on urgency.

More than 560 surgeries were postponed between April 20 to May 5, although the authority says 175 of those have already been rescheduled or completed.
