WINNIPEG — Kathy Urban was enjoying a beautiful day at her cottage in Lee River, Manitoba when she noticed a sight that, if she hadn’t caught on camera, would be almost unbelievable.
“When I saw that shadow over the driveway and saw it come out the front of the cottage and, there it was,” Urban told Global News over the phone. What she saw is what her and her husband believe to be an enormous osprey carrying a fish land in a tree in front of her cottage on May 4.
“To see an osprey up here isn’t a common sight itself but to see it with a fish is really something else,” Urban grabbed her camera and began snapping photos of the bird and caught these amazing images.
“The fish looked like it was still alive, it was wiggling then it lifted the fish up to get its claw in better,” Urban said. After a short rest the bird of prey took off with its soon to be meal.
Urban and her husband had friends over at the time and said they were all very excited to have been there to see it.
An osprey’s wingspan can reach up to 6′ wide and their diet consists almost entirely of fish.
