EDMONTON – The owner of an Edmonton dog daycare and training centre has been sentenced to six months in jail after being found guilty of animal cruelty.

Ali Sanaee, whose dog daycare Bark was shut down in 2013, was sentenced Wednesday. He was also given a five-year pet probation.

Sanaee was convicted in March on two counts of animal cruelty. Court heard from witnesses who saw him using a cattle prod to control dogs, which he did not deny.

Sanaee ran Bark with his partner. In 2014, more than 40 dogs were removed by police after officers received a number of complaints about the treatment of the animals and the conditions inside.
