City of Saskatoon testing Notifynow Tuesday

Watch above: If you get an alert from Notifynow Tuesday evening, it is more than likely a test. Ray Unrau, Saskatoon’s director of emergency planning, sits down with Lisa Dutton to explain why testing is taking place and how you can sign up for emergency notifications.

SASKATOON – The city is letting residents know it’s testing Notifynow once again. The mass notification system allows the city to send people messages to their cellphone, landline or email – so they know what to do during emergencies in Saskatoon.

The city’s emergency measures organization will conduct the semi-annual Notifynow test starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Similar to other tests, the purpose is to give people the opportunity to better understand the system and encourage everyone to sign-up.

“With each test of the Notifynow system, we increase our residents’ familiarity with the Notifynow process so they will be ready to respond appropriately in a real emergency,” said Ray Unrau, the city’s director of emergency planning.

Notifynow can reach tens of thousands of people in Saskatoon with timely information on how they can protect themselves, their families and/or their homes.

People can change how they receive notification messages by signing into their accounts and choosing their preferred method of contact.

Those who are unlisted in the 2014-15 SaskTel phonebook or have recently moved can sign-up to receive future messages.
