Saskatoon’s Kaylyn Kyle named to 2nd FIFA Women’s World Cup roster

SASKATOON – Saskatchewan’s Kaylyn Kyle, 26, has been selected to represent Canadian women’s soccer at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer. Team Canada coach John Herdman announced his 23-player roster on Monday.

A native of Saskatoon, Kyle was recently acquired by the Thorns FC in Portland, Ore. of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). She played her first game for the club as midfielder on April 18.

Her fellow Thorns FC teammate and Team Canada captain Christine Sinclair was also part of the bronze medal-winning team from the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

This is the second time Kyle has been named to a FIFA Women’s World Cup roster, having also competed for Canada in 2011.

Kyle also played six seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL W-League.

This will be Canada’s sixth appearance at a FIFA Women’s World Cup. The team’s best performance was in 2003 when they finished fourth.

Team Canada will feature in the tournament’s opening game against China PR on June 6 at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
