WINNIPEG — As Winnipeggers gear up to shop local during farmer’s market season, two Manitoba artisans put on an event to give us a taste of what’s to come.
Event organizers Bessie Hatzitrifanos and Peter Fehr dropped by Global Winnipeg’s Morning News to give a taste of #LoveLocalMB – a beer, wine and food event.
“I think a way to anyone’s heart is through their belly,” said Hatzitrifanos. “It’s always a great way to showcase what this province has to offer.”
The event showcases 30 local vendors and their products, many of who are local farmer’s market fixtures.

The pair estimates there were about 500 people at last year’s event at the Winnipeg Winter Club, so this year they needed to find a bigger venue.
“It’s a brand new venue,” said Fehr. “We out grew the venue last year. We had line ups out the door.”
There are more vendors this year. There will also be live music by the Doug Edmond Band.
Vendors are showcasing a range of products from gourmet mustard to craft beer to decadent chocolate to cheesecake in a jar.
Local favorites Danny’s Whole Hog BBQ Smokehouse, Bothwell Cheese and Farmery Estate Brewery will be at the event, but so will other smaller vendors.

“There’s so many artisans here that people haven’t heard about, so we just want to showcase what we have to offer,” said Fehr.

Both Hatzitrifanos and Fehr will be showcasing their products at the event. Hatzitrifanos will bring Bessie’s Best Foods, a line of gluten-free Mediterranean dips and sauces and Fehr will bring Gourmet Inspirations, a line of gourmet sauces.
Proceeds from the event will go to Food Matters Manitoba for an initiative that helps new immigrants and kids make better health choices.
The event is Thursday, April 30 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Canad Inns Destination Centre Club Regent Casino Hotel. Tickets for the event are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
