Whether is was clever schedule coordination or a coincidence is unknown. Harper sat with former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy at the packed MTS Centre.
Social media erupted at Harper’s attendance. Some were just happy to be at the game and spot the PM, but some thought his jersey choice was questionable.
The Winnipeg Jets “whiteout” dates back to the 80s. During home playoff games, all fans are encouraged to wear white.

Harper’s jersey choice seemed to some a half-baked attempt.
Others questioned how Harper, known to be fond of the Calgary Flames, deserved a coveted seat in the sold-out arena, and his motives during an election year.
Alas, the power of the PM coupled with the fans’ “whiteout” couldn’t stop a tough loss to the Anaheim Ducks, eliminating the Jets from the playoffs.

Harper remains in the city Thursday for a photo op and speech. It’s not Harper’s first time at a Winnipeg Jets game — he attended the team’s first game after returning to the hockey-mad city in 2011, and attended a game in 2013.
