VANCOUVER – In the past 48 hours, Global News has been urging Canadians to sign up to be an organ donor as part of our #48in48 campaign.

The goal was to sign up 48,000 Canadians in the two days and although we fell short of that goal, 7,817 people signed up to donate their organs and save lives.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

We shared stories with you from around the country of how organ donation saves lives and you shared some stories with us of your experiences.

More than 1,600 Canadians are added to organ wait lists every year. More than 4,300 people are currently waiting for a transplant.

Just because our campaign is over does not mean you cannot still sign up to be a donor. Visit liveon.ca to sign up now.
