Winnipeg Jets fans plan party with win in Colorado Thursday night

WINNIPEG –Their team is more than 1,000 kilometres away in Denver, Colo., but Jets fans are getting ready to celebrate a win in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg hockey fans were having trouble Thursday afternoon focusing on anything other than potentially making the NHL playoffs for the first time since 1996. A win against the Colorado Avalanche Thursday evening guarantees the hockey-mad city a wild-card spot.

Winnipeg City Hall joined in the hoopla by hoisting the Jets flag in front of the building.

Some fans were joining the fun from outside Winnipeg.

And some just wanted to indulge in a little nostalgia.

Even the polar bears — or at least, Hudson, the Winnipeg zoo’s longest polar bear resident — are cheering for the Jets.
