MONTREAL – Former Montreal Canadiens defenceman Joseph Dollard Herve St. Laurent has passed away in Beloeil.

He was 85.

St. Laurent started his NHL career with the Habs back in 1951.

The Verdun native spent eight years in Montreal, winning four Stanley Cups, before being traded to the Chicago Black Hawks, where he won a fifth Stanley Cup.

He was a steadying influence for a rising young Blackhawks squad, helping them end a 23-year Cup drought.

St. Laurent had 29 goals and 133 assists in 652 games over 12 NHL campaigns.

He had another two goals and 22 assists in 92 playoff games.
