What makes Vancouver unique? Survey claims to have the answers

Ahead of Vancouver’s 129th birthday on Monday, the city set out to find what makes Vancouver unique.

The city asked Vancouverites to take a special survey.

More than 1,160 respondents had to explain what they thought defined what it is to be a Vancouverite, and the answers were hardly surprising.

The question that ‘screamed’ Vancouver the most involved rain, of course.

Fifty six per cent of respondents say “sideways rain” is the worst kind of rain, while 35 per cent say gentle spring rain is the best.

When it comes to describing Vancouver, the city says “beautiful” topped the list of words people chose.

Spanish Banks topped the list for favourite beach, but Kitsilano beach is the best place to people watch.

If you’re hoping to impress that special someone, consider English Bay. It ranked the highest for best beach to take a date to.

Stanley Park was unbeatable as the must-see place.

Many respondents also agreed to the following points:

• Bought a pair of red 2010 Olympic mittens (44%)
• Like the Canucks when they are winning (55%)
• Agree with the statement “Toronto: ugh” (56%)
• Like to remind others that they love living in Vancouver (75%)

Last but not least, 69 per cent agreed with the statement “I eat sushi all the time.”
