WATCH: Ohio man stuck in waist-deep mud rescued by his dog

TORONTO – One loyal dog is probably getting smothered with love after his heroic actions.

A man in Springfield, Ohio got stuck in the mud while working on his duck blind in Buck Creek State Park on Saturday.

Shivering in the frigid, waist-deep waters in temperatures hovering around zero degrees Celsius, the unnamed man was immobile for two hours.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He was able to call for help on his cellphone, but rescuers were unable to reach him because the waters were too shallow for their boats.

However, they were able to bring a rescue rope to the stuck man by deploying his loyal dog out into the muddy waters.

“It’s a good thing he had his cellphone considering he was in the mud and water to about his chest and it was about 33 degrees [Fahrenheit],” Assistant Fire Chief Rick Hughes told WDTN. “He wasn’t going to fare too well much longer out there.”

According to the Springfield News-Sun, the man remained in good spirits throughout the rescue and didn’t suffer any injuries.
