Impaired driving suspected in 5-vehicle Saskatoon crash

SASKATOON – Officers have launched an impaired driving investigation to find the cause of a multiple vehicle crash in Saskatoon Saturday. The collision occurred around 12:25 a.m. at the intersection of 22nd Street and Avenue P.

Police say a vehicle being driven a man, believed to be impaired, slammed into the rear of another vehicle stopped at a red light, which started a chain reaction involving five vehicles.

The vehicle that was being operated by the suspected impaired driver ended up on its roof. He was taken to hospital and is now in custody.

The vehicle that was initially rear-ended had three people pinned inside. They were extracted by the Saskatoon Fire Department.

A total of five people were taken to the hospital. Police said none of the injuries were considered life threatening.

Traffic was re-routed while the collision analyst unit conducts their investigation.
