TORONTO — A year after announcing she was taking a break to care for her ailing husband, Canadian superstar Céline Dion is returning to the Las Vegas stage.

The singer, who stepped out of the spotlight last August to spend more time with René Angélil, said Wednesday she will be back at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Aug. 27.

“I am excited to finally tell my fans I am coming back to Caesars Palace,” Dion said, in a release. “It was René’s wish that I come back. While my family will always be my priority, my fans are just as important to me. I look forward to performing again for all of you.”

Dion thanked fans for allowing her time to be with her family and said Angélil will be in Vegas with her.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“He wants me to sing again, and I want to do this with him,” she told People. “René will be in the audience. I promise there will be high, happy notes, but it’s going to be very emotional for me.”

In an interview that aired on Good Morning America, Dion got emotional when she talked about having to feed Angelil, who had surgery to remove a tumour on his throat in 2013.

“He can’t use his mouth. He can’t eat, so I feed him,” she said. “He’s got a feeding tube. I have to feed him three times a day. I do this myself, and so I feed my husband and feed my kids.”

The couple has sons René-Charles, 14, and twins Eddy and Nelson, 4.

Dion told People: “I am scared of losing him, because it’s bad,” she said. “But I have to show myself, my husband and my kids that I’m strong and we’re okay.”
