Diljohn was crossing Finch Avenue East near Neilson Road at the time of the collision.
Toronto police say the accused faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and fail to remain at the scene of the collision.
TTC CEO Andy Byford said Friday that Shergill is no longer employed by the transit commission.
“It was a terrible event, it was shocking, we’re still sort of recovering from that,” Byford said. “The operators are no longer with us and our thoughts remain with the family.”
