MERRITT — The BC Coroners Service confirms the identity of an 83-year-old woman who died after falling into a roadside ditch in the Nicola Valley.

Mildred Mitchell of Merritt was driving with a friend on a service road about 20 kilometres south of her home city on Saturday when the vehicle got stuck in the mud.

The pair were walking out to get help when Mitchell fell into a ditch.

The RCMP eventually found the two women but Mitchell died while being rushed to hospital.

Millie Mitchell was one of several people protesting the trucking of treated sewage from the Central Okanagan to the Merritt area.
