WINNIPEG – Police say they’ve put a stop to a string of break ins in the River Heights area after the arrest of three boys – including a 13-year-old captured after officers chased a stolen car.

Police say they’ve increased patrols in River Heights after several complaints of property crimes. At about 4 a.m. Monday they saw a group of teens in the Kingsway and Campbell Street area “believed to be breaking into vehicles” , who fled when officers approached.

Two were caught and arrested shortly after, but a third suspect escaped and is believed to have stolen a vehicle in the area to make his getaway.

Two boys, 14, faced several charges including 14 counts of mischief.

Early Tuesday morning officers spotted a stolen vehicle downtown and tried to pull it over at Ellice Ave. at McGee Street. The driver sped off and police gave chase – the suspect vehicle crashed at Sargent Ave. and Victor St.
