EDMONTON — It’s been one year since two people were killed and four others injured in a stabbing spree at a west Edmonton warehouse.

On Feb. 28, 2014 Fitzroy Harris, 50, and Thierno Bah, 41, were killed when they were stabbed while working at the Loblaw warehouse at 161 Street and 121A Avenue.

On Friday, dozens of Loblaw employees gathered for a private memorial service to mark the sombre anniversary.

“It’s an opportunity for us to mark a moment of silence, reflect on the past year, remember our colleagues and continue to extend our support and sympathy to the families,” Kevin Groh, vice-president of corporate affairs at Loblaw Companies Ltd. said in an emailed statement.

Dozens of officers were called to the west Edmonton warehouse that Friday afternoon in 2014 after a man walked into the workplace armed with two knives. Six men were stabbed, two fatally.

The suspect fled the scene and a massive manhunt ensued. Jayme Pasieka, who was 29 years old at the time, was eventually arrested and taken into custody in the area of 39 Street and 74 Avenue.

In the days following the stabbings, Pasieka was charged with several offences including two counts of first-degree murder. Pasieka’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 20.
