PENTICTON — RCMP have been stationed inside four south Okanagan schools for a week and a half after copies of a threatening letter were found, but police say after Friday that presence is being scaled down.

After the letter was found on February 18, police immediately put the schools involved under a partial lockdown.

After a thorough investigation, police have determined the threat level is low.

“If we thought there was any great risk we certainly wouldn’t be winding down this time.” says Sgt. Rick Dellebuur with the Penticton RCMP. “For that reason, we are still going to be in that area, we still plan on making patrols around the schools. We don’t feel the need to be right inside of the schools.”

RCMP still haven’t determined who wrote the letter and if it was a hoax or if the writer had a change of heart.
