“One of the key next steps is to finalize track engineering in advance of earth moving,” says Bill Drossos with South Okanagan Motorsports Corporation (SOMC). “This requires a site visit by our track designer.”

The circuit’s designer is Canadian racing legend Jacques Villeneuve.

“Since I was five or six, I was always playing with little cars and making racetracks — that’s always been a interest of mine,” says Villeneuve in a 2013 interview with Global News.

Drossos says Area 27 members will be invited to a private tour of the track and site with Villeneuve on Saturday, February 28.

“[The engineering team] will be on-site in advance to stake the centerline of the circuit based on precise GPS coordinates,” says Drossos. “[We] will be able to see the precise location of each corner, elevation changes, and straightaway lengths.”

The proposed site has been used to grow corn and hay for more than 30 years. Approval for the project was granted by the Osoyoos Indian Band a few months ago.
