MONTREAL — Chris Brown won’t be performing in Canada this week.
“Unfortunately I will not be able to perform in front of sold out crowds in Montreal and Toronto,” he tweeted to his 14 million followers Tuesday.
In another tweet, the American recording artist explained why his Tuesday night concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre and Wednesday concert at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre have been cancelled.
“The good people of the Canadian government wouldn’t allow me entry,” he wrote.
“I’ll be back this summer and will hopefully see all my Canadian fans!”
Both tweets were later deleted.
Concert promoters in both cities confirmed via Twitter the concerts are cancelled.
It’s not the first time Brown has cancelled shows in Canada.
He had to pull out of Drake’s OVO Festival in Toronto last summer after being denied entry to the country and two years ago shows in Halifax, Toronto, Saint John and Winnipeg were cancelled after sponsors backed out.
Brown is inadmissible to Canada because he has a criminal record stemming from an assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna in February 2009. According to Canadian immigration law, a person who “committed an act outside Canada that would be a crime” in Canada can be barred from entering.

The singer’s rep Nicole Perna said Brown will apply to return at a later date.
Brown’s criminal record is evidently not a concern to his fans.

Brown’s current tour is scheduled to wrap up March 18 in Virginia.
