REGINA – The family of Margaret Warholm is looking for a lawyer who will help them take legal action against Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home.
Warholm’s family came forward in November 2014, accusing the home of serious neglect that led to the 74-year-old developing large bedsores and becoming malnourished.
When Margaret was admitted to hospital for her ailments, doctors diagnosed a fractured spine from a wheelchair fall months earlier.
Now, her family has posted an ad on Used Regina asking for a “lawyer with a heart” to take on her case.
“We are looking for a lawyer that will work either on commission or pro-bono to represent our family in holding the care home legally responsible for the neglect she endured before her passing,” reads the post.
Since Margaret’s family came forward, Saskatchewan’s Ombudsman has received 35 complaints of senior neglect province-wide. The office is currently investigating.
Both the health minister and the premier say they will take direction from the ombudsman on what legislative action could achieve.
