Vilks, who has received numerous threats for caricaturing the Prophet Mohammad, was unharmed in Saturday’s attack. But he told The Associated Press by telephone “what other motive could there be?”

The artist also told the AP he thinks it’s possible that Saturday’s attack “was inspired by Charlie Hebdo,” referring to last month’s attack by Islamic extremists that left 12 dead at the French satirical magazine in Paris. He did not give any proof for that statement.
