TORONTO — Kanye West backed down Wednesday from comments he made after the Grammy Awards about musician Beck.

“Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game,” he said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

West went on a rant Sunday night after Beck beat nominees, including Beyonce, for Album of the Year.

“Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his away to Beyonce,” he said in an interview with E!.

“The Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration.”

But, on Wednesday, West took a different tone. “When I said that thing about respect artistry, it came off the wrong way and that was a mis-wording on my part,” he said.

“Obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists, and respects artistry.”

Asked why he rushed the stage when Beck went up to accept his award, West said “the voices in my head told me to go up.”

The rap star also told Seacrest he and Taylor Swift are “going into the studio together.” West famously interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
