Police in LaSalle on high alert following report of suspected predator near school

MONTREAL — If you’re a parent in LaSalle, chances are you’re feeling the same anxiety and nervousness as Solange Fernandoi.

“It’s something to be worried about, for sure,” said Fernandoi.

Her two children attend Notre-Dame-des-Rapides Elementary School on George Street in the Montreal borough of LaSalle.

Last Friday morning, the school was the scene of an upsetting event.

A strange man, possibly a sexual predator, approached a student near the school yard.

He reportedly asked the girl for help to find his missing dog and offered her candy in exchange for her assistance.

Police officers spent the day speaking with students at Notre-Dame-des-Rapides School, as well as at a number of neighbouring schools.

“We are treating this very seriously,” added Cmdr. Durand.

Officials with the Marguerite-Bourgeois School Board, which oversees activities at the school in question, sent letters to parents last week.

The letter stated the person in question was a “middle-aged, French-speaking man.” He was reportedly wearing a black coat, a dark tuque and a neck scarf.

Late Monday afternoon, officials at Lester B. Pearson School Board confirmed it would also send warning letters to parents of its students in LaSalle.
