WINNIPEG — The boil water advisory that has been in effect across the entire city of Winnipeg was lifted Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

“The second round of samples tested have been analyzed and returned negative for any bacterial presence,” said Mayor Brian Bowman during a press conference at city hall. “Our city’s drinking water remains safe to drink, prepare food and beverages along with all hygiene purposes.”

The city was told by the Medical Officer of Health with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority at 2:51 p.m. Thursday that the tests came back negative for bacteria in all samples retested Wednesday.

The advisory was issued on Tuesday after routine testing found coliform and E. coli at extremely low levels in six of 39 water samples.
Further testing came back clean on Wednesday but regulations require two clean tests in a row before the all-clear can be declared.
