Power out in sections of West Kildonan

WINNIPEG — Thousands of Winnipeggers are left without power after a Manitoba Hydro pole caught fire at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The pole ignited at McPhilips Street and Kingsbury Avenue and resulted in the entire Garden City and River East section of the city to lose power, around nine thousand customers says Manitoba Hydro.

Five thousand customers had their power returned by 8:15 p.m. The remaining four thousand will have to wait 4-5 hours for the affected pole to be repaired. The reason the repairs will take this long is because the pole holds four separate circuits and they will need to be repaired and reattached says Manitoba Hydro.

The area still without power is between McGregor Street to the west, the Red River to the east, Leila Avenue to the north and Inskter Boulevard to the south.

Hydro currently doesn’t know what caused the fire.
