Kelowna murder suspect appears in court

KELOWNA — The accused killer in a fatal bus stabbing three months ago appeared in Kelowna court Tuesday morning by a video link from a jail in Port Coquitlam.  However, for his next court date, he’ll be brought to Kelowna at the request of his lawyer.

Twenty-three year old Tyler Jack Newton is charged with second-degree murder. He’s accused of stabbing a man to death on a city transit bus in October. Police say Caesar Rosales, 55, was killed in an unprovoked and random attack.

Rosales bled to death after being stabbed in the throat. Newton’s legal aid lawyer says he’s still waiting for Crown Counsel to hand over the police evidence in the case. In the meantime, he asked that Newton be transported to Kelowna for his next court appearance as the lawyer wants to talk to his client in-person.
