TORONTO – B.C. Premier Christy Clark has taken to Twitter to joke about Leafs fans who threw their jerseys on the ice at the Air Canada Centre Monday night.
“Most Canadians would rather be arrested than put on that jersey,” Clark wrote on twitter. She is the premier of B.C., the province which saw hundreds of people arrested following large riots in the wake of the Vancouver Canucks losing to the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals in 2011.
The Vancouver Canucks currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference with 55 points and no Stanley Cup victories.
The Leafs aren’t doing as well this season sitting in tenth place in the Eastern Conference, seven points out of the playoffs.
The Leafs are in the midst of a five-game losing streak, scoring only twice during that span.
A few people who were at Monday’s game threw their jerseys on the ice in disgust, resulting in tickets for public mischief and a year-long ban from MLSE properties.
The reaction to Clark’s tweet was mixed: some criticized her, while others admitted it was a good burn.
